Starting on Oct 1st, 2022, the Province of B.C. changed the rules for how tax is calculated for private vehicle purchases. Purchasers must now pay tax on the posted average wholesale value, even if their purchase price is lower. We know this may not be fair for people who purchase vehicles with lower values.

That’s where we come in! Obtaining an appraisal allows the purchaser to pay tax on the actual value of the vehicle, which can potentially save you hundreds of dollars! Obtaining an appraisal can be a worthwhile option for vehicles that have:

• High kilometers
• Body damage or rust
• Mechanical repairs needed
• Generally poor condition / Wear and Tear
• Interior damage, ripped seats or stains
• Previous use of vehicle (work truck/taxi etc.)
• Salvage, rebuilt or imported status

Receive your completed Motor Vehicle Appraisal Tax Form (FIN 320) right to your email in three easy steps!

1. Enter the vehicle details & attach vehicle photos through our easy online appraisal application.
2. Our Appraisal Specialists will review your submission for accuracy and contact you for confirmation and payment.
3. Receive your completed appraisal form by email, in as little as 2 hours!

Once you receive your completed Appraisal Tax Form (FIN 320 form) by email, you have two options for how to use this form:

1. Bring the completed FIN 320 Appraisal Form to your Autoplan Insurance agent when registering your newly purchased vehicle into your name. This allows you to avoid paying the higher tax amount at the time of registration.
2. If you’ve already registered the newly purchased vehicle in your name when you receive the FIN 320 Appraisal Form, you can submit the form to the Consumer Taxation Branch and request a refund of a portion of the tax you paid at the time of registration. The Appraisal form must be received by the Consumer Taxation Branch within 30 days of the date of the vehicle registration.
